My Glossary or How I Define Things

Neurodiversity / Neurodiverse: a person or group of people who see the world differently and thereby experience the world differently, and when I say differently, I mean biologically; a person or group of people who are born with a brain type that functions differently than “The Norm”; examples of Neurodiversity include (but are in no way limited to) ADD, ADHD, Autism, Aspergers, Dyslexia, Dysphoria, etc.

Neurodivergent: a term that is growing in popularity but that I think is false and misleading; a term that innately implies brokenness, an unacceptable difference, and/or that a different brain type is wrong because it has diverged from the correct path; a term that grates on my nerves like systemic racism does

Transitions: the time, space, and experience of changing from one thing to another. Examples include finishing your school day, arriving at work, coming home, entering a classroom, starting a work meeting, ending a work meeting, etc.

ND: Abbreviation for Neurodiverse

NT: Abbreviation for Neurotypical

Neurotypical: a person or group of people who live life “normally” and without the biological or physiological hindrances that ND people do; the world that we live in and the expectations of said world
